If you’re eager to gain experience within the animal sector, then this Level 2 City & Guilds Diploma in Animal Care could be a great place to begin. It’s an ideal course for anyone who may be moving into an apprenticeship or applying for an animal management qualification, setting you up for a rewarding career in the industry.
The course lasts one year, and is both practical and theory based, as you learn about, interact and work with a wide range of animals. You’ll learn how to look after their health and welfare, and take part in practical animal feeding, as well as understanding the appropriate areas for different animals to live and sleep in and discovering how to maintain this accommodation correctly.
You’ll get an introduction into the principles of animal behaviour, learn how to care for zoo animals, and develop a good understanding of British wildlife species and their habitats. As part of the course, you’ll also spend one day a week on a work experience placement within the animal care industry.
You’ll need to have at least 4 GCSEs at grade D/E or above, including both English Language and Maths. Beyond that, we don’t need any other qualifications, but you will have to set up and complete a work placement – with written evidence – as part of the course. Due to Government changes to grading systems for GCSES in 16/17, please follow the below link to see specific entry criteria for school leavers School Leaver Entry Requirements
How will I be assessed?
