Assessing Competence in the Work Environment

The Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the work environment is ideal for you if you want to be an Assessor with the capability to assess learners in the working environment.

You'll be focusing on understanding the principles and practice of assessment, alongside a unit that will help you to learn how to assess occupational competence. You can work towards this qualification within your own organisation, with a flexible approach to study.

Your Assessor will meet with you at mutually agreed times to provide coaching and support and you'll have access to an electronic portfolio and library of learning support materials to help you complete the workbook and your practical assessments.

To enrol on this course, you will need to be working with learners who need to be assessed to achieve their own accredited qualification. You should meet the occupational and qualification requirements for Assessors in your industry and have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

We will ask you to complete an eligibility checklist and attend an interview with us to check your suitability.

Throughout the duration of the course, you will be assessed in a number of different ways; completion of a workbook, taking part in discussions with your Assessor, completing practical assessments and presenting records of assessment showing that you have assessed your learners.

After you have completed the Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment, you may want to expand your skills in the teaching field and complete a Level 3 Award in Education and Training with us at The Manchester College. You can also progress on to degree-level study with our higher education partner, UCEN Manchester. Students progressing from The Manchester College will receive a cash award through the Achievers Scholarship.

As you develop experience as an Assessor, you will also be able to work towards the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practices, too. You will find many opportunities to work in training centres or colleges, with the chance to pursue a rewarding career in the teaching industry.
