If you are determined to pursue a career in business & marketing then the Foundation Degree in Business and Marketing is for you. It is designed to produce graduates who will follow a wide range of marketing careers in commercial and public sector organisations. The course balances both practical business and marketing skills with academic analytical rigour. The programme provides challenging, comprehensive learning experiences and develops students’ intellectual, communication and practical abilities for example in formal investigative and analytical reports, scenario based marketing management role plays, employment related presentations
This makes it ideal for those students’ who wish to either begin their careers from the start of the course or those that are presently employed and wish to progress further in their present role. You will be encouraged to become an independent thinker and develop key graduate marketing management and employability skills necessary for today’s dynamic and ever changing organisations. The marketing subject specific skills and business models learnt are directly transferable to future academic study and employment. The transferable practical academic and vocational skills are taught, practised and tracked through a highly effective structured approach to a Personal Development Plan that includes skills development
Over the two years students will study eight 30 credit modules:
Dynamic Business Environment
The aim of this unit is to develop an understanding of a range of dynamic factors in the general business environment over which organisations may have limited, if any control over. The unit introduces the topics of markets and globalisation, technological development, fundamental macroeconomic elements and concepts, social, cultural and ecological factors.
Understanding and Managing People
This module provides students with a broad understanding of a range of concepts and models related to understanding and managing people, work and behaviour in national and international organisations.
Ideas, Creativity and Entrepreneurship
This module develops enterprising behaviours, skills and attributes. Creates awareness of entrepreneurial career paths and responsible entrepreneurship. Gives international perspective to the start-up process and is achieved through ideas generation workshops.
Principles of Marketing
This module gives students’ an understanding and interpretation of key marketing concepts. Core themes are marketing orientation and practice; the marketing mix; marketing research and the use of financial techniques to underpin marketing programmes; planning and budgeting; ratio analysis and evaluation; marketing applications of consumer psychology and behaviour; digital marketing and the changing approaches to communication; the marketing environment and marketing ethics
Examines through practical and theoretical engagement, the theories and techniques in the management and development of brands. Incorporating the social and cultural impacts on brands and e-branding
This module examines the nature and shape of business structure resulting from the responsible business initiatives and approaches enshrined in corporate governance/legal frameworks and implied by the growth/rise of CSR and sustainability business consciousness.
Marketing and Operations
This module will introduce the marketing and operations functions and related underpinning theory. It will address the critical links between these two functions and their relationship to other parts of an organisation and its overarching marketing strategy.
Work Based Learning (Procedures, Policy and Practices)
This module reflects on work experience/placement to include workplace procedures and policies and how they are used to maintain control. Issues around achieving compliance, variations in practice and the various drivers behind organisational policy.
If you’d like to enrol on our Foundation Degree in Business and Marketing, you’ll need to have at least 3 GCSEs at grade C or above, with two of them to in English Language and Maths, and 160 UCAS Tariff Points.
You don’t need to have any experience in either business or marketing, but if you’re a mature applicant with knowledge and skill in these areas, or you’ve passed a recognised Access programme, our admissions team will invite you for an interview to check your suitability for the course.
How will I be assessed?
Throughout the two year course there will be a number of different assignments and exams to help focus your skills and prepare you for the working world. At the end of each module, you’ll be given one or two different tasks to complete.
These could include mock business meetings or interviews, presenting a proposal, or conducting an academic business report. We’ll also check on your progress at regular intervals during each module, with workshops, group projects, online quizzes and tutor feedback to help make sure you have all the support you need.
Continuing Your Journey
When you’ve completed a foundation degree course with us, you’ll find there are a number of steps you can take next, depending on the direction you’d like your career to go.
Many of our students choose to continue their studies with us; if you’ve got an average of 55% or more in your final year, you may want to top up your degree to a BA (Hons) in a related business area. You could then continue to a master’s level qualification.
Alternatively, you’ll have a number of great skills that will prepare you for a career in both the business and marketing sectors. The fees (if applicable) for this 2 year, full time foundation degree are currently £7000.
