Course Details

  • The course is creative, encourages experimentation and digital and analogue skills and allows you to engage with photography in a variety of contexts, responding to the wide-ranging nature of contemporary photographic practice. The course incorporates live briefs that provide you with the opportunity to gain real work skills and develop relationships with potential employers.

    The course is delivered over two years full-time or four years part time.You will learn the technical skills of photography, including digital image production and manipulation, whilst exploring images from fashion to street style, from advertising campaigns to designer look-books, and from fanzine to glossy magazine. Contemporary theory and research will be combined with practical work to get a rounded view of photography and its place in culture.

    - Digital publishing
    - Fashion photography
    - Image manipulation techniques
    - Art direction for photography
    - Studio photography
    - Professional portfolio development
    - Cultural history and design practice.

  • Applicants are required to have a BTEC Level 3 National Diploma/Extended Diploma with Merit, Pass, Pass or a BTEC Level 3 National Certificate/Extended .

    Certificate with Merit, Merit in an art or design related subject area, or an equivalent level 3 qualification with appropriate content. Minimum UCAS tariff points required:64. A portfolio of creative work should accompany qualifications.

    Mature applicants (aged 21 or over) who are able to demonstrate relevant skills or knowledge gained in employment or vocational activity may also apply.

  • 100% of your mark will be based on your photographic portfolio and coursework.

    You will be enrolled as an external student with Manchester Metropolitan University.

  • Successful graduates will also have the opportunity to progress to final year undergraduate programmes at other universities or The Manchester College

    • BA Top Up at other Universities.

    Students will be equipped to work directly in the photographic and digital media industry, careers on offer range from commercial photography, through freelance and magazine photojournalism to more specific areas such as scientific photography, medical photography and culinary photography.
