7 Steps to Take On Your Journey to an Amazing Career

So you’re about to take your next educational steps?

Choosing the right course and career is important to ensure you have a satisfied and fulfilling job… And we’re here to help!

We get it. Choosing a career and course can be confusing, but with some guidance, it can be done!

This blog will help you on your path to an amazing, fulfilling career.

Here are 7 steps to deciding on a career and course.

How to decide on a career and course

Step 1: Self-reflection

We know, taking the step to decide your educational step after GCSE can be exciting, but it is important to give it some thought!

  • Take your time to reflect on yourself.
  • Consider your interests, passions, and strengths.
  • What subjects do you enjoy?
  • What activities make you lose track of time?

Understanding yourself will guide you towards a career that excites you when you wake up for work every morning.

Step 2: Explore our range of courses

At TMC, we are proud to say, we offer a wide range of courses for different career paths and interests, so you can find a course that works for you.

Explore our subjects, read the brochures, and see what gets you excited! This will really help you narrow down your career prospects.

Step 3: Speak to a careers advisor

Now that you’ve figured out what avenue you want to go down, now is the time to speak to your careers advisor.

Are you interested in sports? Perhaps a career as a PE teacher or sports coach is right for you!

Into computing? You could make an excellent software engineer or IT technician.

Whatever industry excites you, a careers advisor can help you find the right career for you!

Step 4: Choose the right course for your career

Great, so you’ve figured out which industry and career is a good fit for you!

Now is the time to make the right plan so you can figure out what steps you need to take to get there.

Not every course in a certain field will get you the career you want. For example, a Childhood and Youth Studies course won't automatically qualify you as a teacher. Speak to a careers advisor and tutors to help you find the right course that can get you on track to your dream career.

Step 5: Embrace work-based learning opportunities

So now that you’re pretty sure about the career, industry, and course you want to pursue, you can do an optional step to really make sure this is the right path for you.

Volunteer in your chosen industry during your free time. Ask your school if they can help you secure a work experience placement so you can get a chance to experience your career without the commitment!

Of course, this step is optional, as some industries may be difficult to get work experience in. If you can’t get work experience, try the next step.

Step 6: Speak to industry professionals

If you want an insight into the pros, cons, ins and outs of your chosen career, speak to someone who is in your chosen industry. They can provide you with a clear insight into what it is like to work in that field.

Speak to people you know! Ask your parents if they know nurses, vets, lawyers and any other career you may be interested in, and ask if you can have a chat with them.

Step 7: Enrol on to The Manchester College courses

Okay, so you’ve figured out the course and career you want.

Congratulations!

Now it is time to enrol on to your chosen course at the right educational institution.

With a dynamic blend of cutting-edge courses, passionate educators, and a vibrant community, TMC transforms education into an adventure.

Here, you don't just learn; they discover, innovate, and embark on a path to your dream career with knowledge and confidence.
