Childcare & Nurseries
Juggling childcare with an education can be a challenging, time-consuming task – but it doesn’t have to be. At The Manchester College, we have three dedicated on-site nurseries with fully qualified, expert childcare providers who can help look after your child or children.
Our nurseries are open Monday to Friday, from 8am-6pm, and are suitable for children from six months old up to the age of five. Your little one(s) will enjoy a safe and friendly environment, where they’ll learn, play and make new friends throughout the year, leaving you the freedom to focus on college.
Play and learning
Each of our nurseries follows the Early Years Foundation Stages (EYFS) framework, helping the babies and young children in our care to learn and play in a happy and stimulating environment that’s tailored to each of their individual developmental needs.
They’ll get to enjoy a wide variety of activities throughout the day, each designed to encourage your child’s social and creative abilities, improve their communication and listening skills, and aid their physical development. This method of learning and playing provides the best foundation for positive progress in the future.
About our nurseries
At our Openshaw and Harpurhey nurseries we offer student-funded places, care2learn places, term-time private places. All our staff hold a Level 3 qualification and are trained in paediatric first aid.
Your child will be allocated a key person, who will be introduced to you at the beginning of your child’s stay. They’ll monitor your child’s progress and ensure their wellbeing at all times. We aim to meet the needs of all our children, irrespective of religion, culture, gender or learning difficulty/disability.
Paying for childcare
Depending on your current circumstances, there may funding available for you to help you afford childcare whilst you are studying at The Manchester College. You could be eligible for the Care2Learn programme, a 19+ Study Award, or a Childcare Grant.
For young parents under the age of 20, national funding from the government is available to help cover both the costs of a nursery place and travel to and from your nursery provider. If you’re living on low income, the 19+ Study Award (for students over 19 years old) has an element dedicated to childcare, whilst Childcare Grants can help those studying a university-level course, depending on your household income.
You can find out more information about childcare funding in our Fees, Finance and Funding section, or you can get in touch with our Careers & Welfare team on 03333 222 444.
