Hair, Beauty & Retail

When there is always a demand to look good and feel great, you'll find rewarding careers for hairdressers and beauty therapies all across Greater Manchester and the north west. And there's no better place to learn the skills and techniques you'll need than at our Centre of Excellence for Hair and Beauty.

Whether you're just starting out in this career or want to advance your skills, come and explore your passion and flex your creativity, with an incredible variety of courses to choose from, specialising in both hair styling techniques and beauty therapy treatments. You'll be working in hands-on situations, interacting with customers, and training for a successful role in this booming industry.

  • On any of our hair and beauty courses, you’ll get to train in professional-standard salons on campus, each fully stocked with all the latest products and equipment you’d expect to find in any modern commercial salon. As your skills advance, you’ll also be able to work with paying clients in our North and South Manchester Studios of Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy.

  • As well as learning from an exceptional team of staff who all work in the industry themselves, the hair and beauty department has strong links with Wella, working closely with them on the content and delivery of our courses. We even hosted their national Xposure competition this year! You could get the chance to work with them directly, or participate in a number of study programmes in prominent salons around the area.

  • If you're just starting your journey into hairdressing or beauty therapy, we've got a huge range of Level 1 and Level 2 courses to help you learn all the essential skills you'll need. You can then advance onto a number of Level 3 courses and specialist subjects, and then perhaps hone your management skills at degree level.

  • The main campuses for our hair, beauty and retail courses are our Harpurhey Campus in north Manchester, and our Northenden Campus in south Manchester. You may also be able to take some courses at our Openshaw Campus in east Manchester.

We have been working with The Manchester College now for the past 4 years. We have always found them to be extremely supportive and flexible in their approach accommodating our every business need irrespective of the age of the person enrolled with them. Whenever we are looking to recruit apprentices or newly trained staff, The Manchester College is always our first port of call.

Mike Messenger • Ed’s Hair & Beauty

I started a level 1 hairdressing course at The Manchester College 3 years ago and loved it. I learnt so much being in college, it was great. I went from level 1 to level 2 and I’m now on my level 3 course. The College really helped grow my confidence and helped me find employment. I am now working towards being a full-time stylist in the salon.
