Course Details

  • Ideal for anyone specialising in panel work and body repairs in the motoring industry, this IMI Award is designed to showcase your advanced skills and abilities with an Automotive Technician Accreditation.

You’ll complete a number of different modules to demonstrate your knowledge and expertise as a Senior Panel Technician, each tested to an agreed industry standard. As well as focusing on cosmetic panel alignment and the repair of aluminium panels, you’ll need to be able to set up, measure and realign structures correctly using a body jig. Your mag welding and bonding skills will also be tested, along with how you remove and replace MET (mechanical, electrical trim).

After you’ve completed assessments for each module, you will achieve IMI accreditation as a Senior Panel Technician, and you’ll be placed on the Professional Register of recognised, skilled technicians in this sector. The accreditation lasts for three years.

  • You’ll need to have all the relevant skills and knowledge to complete these assessments for this senior status, and that usually means at least three years’ industry experience or a relevant industrial qualification.

  • Alongside the completion of an online test to check your industry knowledge is up to date, you’ll be assessed via practical assignments and tasks for each of the modules on this course.

  • Once you’ve achieved accreditation as a Senior Panel Technician, you’ll have a national recognised and approved qualification to demonstrate your advanced skills and expertise to both employers and customers.

This will help you take your career in the industry to the next level. At present, this is the highest accreditation status in this technical field, but you wish to expand your knowledge and work towards a Master Technician qualification in a related field, opening up even more career paths in the automotive industry.
