This qualification aims for learners to be able to understand narrations of simple information presented to them in British Sign Language (BSL). Develop the ability to describe events, issues or matters in BSL and engage in simple conversations with deaf people, both in social situations and at work, school or college.
The qualification will be delivered in three units:
1. Receptive skills in British Sign Language
2. Descriptive skills in British Sign Language
3. Conversational Skills in British Sign Language
There are no formal entry requirements for this course, but you may need to do an initial assessment.
How will I be assessed?
Throughout this Level 1 Certificate in British Sign Language Studies you will be assessed practically, this will include a combination of teaching, seminars, discussions, research and presentation and conversational skills.
Continuing Your Journey
You’ll have a wide range of options open to you after completing this Level 1 Certificate in British Sign Language Studies. You could progress onto Level 2 certificate in British Sign Language Studies on your journey to amazing at The Manchester College.Careers page
With the skills and knowledge you’ve learnt, you’ll also be well equipped to progress into work and pursue a number of career opportunities including Sign Language Interpreter and working with deaf people/community.
