Course Details

  • This intermediate DSLR photography course is aimed at those who understand basic DSLR, mirrorless or bridge camera skills and want to develop their skills further. For example, using shutter speed settings to create light painting effects and control the focus of their images with creative depth of field techniques.
As well as further developing technical skills, the course will also explore what makes a “good” photograph and how photography can communicate different meaning to the viewer.
The course will include practical tasks each week and a supported student led personal project to ensure learners get the opportunity to photograph what they are interested in. As long as you are able to control the aperture, shutter speeds and ISO – you will enjoy this course.
    You’ll also learn about:
    • How to set the right depth of field, from portraits with a blurred background to detailed landscape shots, by choosing the appropriate Aperture.
    • How to capture moving objects exploring freezing action and light painting
    • White balance and colours – how to make sure they’re the colour you want them to be
    • How to cope with difficult and low light conditions
    • The difference in jpeg and raw files when saving and printing your work
    • Improving your photography in photoshop

  • There are no formal entry requirements for this course, however, you will require basic knowledge of how to use a DSLR camera.

  • Upon successful completion of this qualification, students could advance on to our Photoshop for Beginners course to learn more about improving your photography using Photoshop.
