Overview
This Level 1 Engineering qualification provides an introduction to engineering design and build projects for 16-18 year olds who might be interested in studying engineering at a higher level in the next academic year.
The award will give you the opportunity to develop sector-specific knowledge and skills in a practical learning environment with a focus on four areas of equal importance and will cover:
• Development of key engineering practical and technical skills, such as research, observation, measurement, making, using computer-aided design (CAD) and disassembly
• Knowledge of key engineering sectors (mechanical, electrical/electronic and engineering design) and the interrelation of each in industry
• Knowledge of the stages involved in planning and implementing an engineering project
• Knowledge and skills involved in the investigation of solutions to engineering problems in response to a given brief.

Entry requirements
Applicants must possess GCSEs in English and maths at Grade 2 or Functional Level 1 in English and maths as a minimum requirement

How will I be assessed?
Study will be both classroom and practically based with a project-based learning approach.
You’ll be assessed through internal assessments on skills and knowledge and through an external assessment responding to an engineering brief.

Continuing Your Journey
Upon successful completion of this qualification, you’ll know more about the wide range of career roles and opportunities available in engineering and will be able to progress onto a Level 2 Diploma in Engineering in September.
