Course Details

  • Join us for this highly practical course in Filmaking at the Manchester Film School, and you’ll benefit from state of the art equipment used on major feature films and a programme that’s internationally renowned for its excellence, winning Six Royal Television Society NW student awards and 16 nominations in the last four years (more than any NW University), and the National Award for best cinematography in 2016.

    Build on your existing knowledge, as you develop your specialism in Writing, Directing, Production, Camera, Lighting, Sound, Set Design & Construction and Post Production, and use our dedicated 3000sq ft film studio or fully equipped production vehicle to produce Films and TV programmes, with the same equipment used on major feature films.

    You’ll benefit from high end industry work placements, and draw on experience from previous students, who’ve received major recognition at international film festivals, worked at top production studios, and been part of feature films like James Bond and Harry Potter, TV drama like Downton Abbey and Peaky Blinders, and commercials for the likes of Sony, Dyson and Ford.

  • Higher National Diploma or Foundation Degree or equivalent qualification in an appropriate subject is required.

  • Assessment is carried out through a series of practical projects approximately every eight weeks, using industry standards to assess how your professionalism is developing.

    There is no formal exam, but there are deadlines which you have to meet, come what may, just like the industry!

  • Successfully complete this course, and you can advance to postgraduate study in the UK and abroad, or study at the National Film & Television School in London

  • There are two main costs you will have whilst studying and if you are a home student studying on a full-time course, you can apply for student finance to cover both of these:

    - Your tuition fees for each year of your course.
    - Help with your living costs e.g. rent, food, clothing, course materials, entertainment.
