This qualification is for candidates who want to work as plumbers in the building services engineering sector. This qualification does not make candidates fully qualified plumbers. The qualification covers the development of skills, knowledge, and understanding required for employment and/or career progression in the plumbing sector. Students who successfully complete the Level 2 qualification can progress to the Level 3 Technical Diploma, into employment, or to an apprenticeship in Plumbing.

Students on the course will study the following mandatory content:
• Health and safety in building services engineering
• Electrical principles and processes for building services engineering
• Scientific principles for domestic, commercial, and industrial plumbing
• Common plumbing processes
• Cold water systems
• Domestic hot water systems
• Sanitation
• Central heating systems
• Drainage systems
• Communication skills in the building services sector

For this Level 2 qualification, students should have the equivalent of GCSE grade 3 in English and Maths, or evidence of the ability to work at that level through a BKSB assessment that we will carry out with you.

Study pattern is approximately 70% workshop and practical training, 30% theory and principles studied in a classroom or workshop environment.

Assessment for the qualification takes the form of a synoptic practical assessment that examines a range of practical skills learnt on the course and are applied in a single assessment scenario. In addition, there is a written exam on the theory and principles in plumbing. The student must achieve the mandatory employer involvement as part of their programme.

Upon successful completion of this qualification, learners will be able to progress to either a Level 3 Technical Diploma at The Manchester College or find employment or a Level 3 apprenticeship in the Building services sector.
