An opportunity to gain a wealth of experience and knowledge working as a make-up artist in preparation for direct employment within the make-up industry or further study.

Students on this programme will develop a host of practical skills such as; Corrective make-up techniques, Fashion hair styling, Creative make-up application techniques for traditional and contemporary styles.

The content of the programme encourages students to produce innovative ideas in visual imagery, explore creativity and link to the needs of the Media Make-up Industry. The programme will prepare students to engage and work as artistic practitioners across a broad range of artistic makeup, including a variety of TV and media environments, theatre and photographic sectors, as well as preparing them to be an independent practitioner/artist.

Make-up Artists in this region are highly sought after due to BBC Media City at Salford Quays and the redevelopment of ITV's Granada Studios, which also provide our learners with excellent opportunities to gain significant work experience.

• The ideal candidate will have a passion for make-up, be creative and enthusiastic
• All applicants will be required to apply through UCAS and should have a minimum of 64 UCAS points. Applicants may be invited to attend an interview where they will be asked to provide examples of written work, a portfolio of images demonstrating their skills within make-up / hair, or provide examples of designs work/illustrations
• Non-traditional students who can demonstrate relevant skills or knowledge gained in employment or vocational activity may also apply but will be subject to an interview.

The learner's practical expertise will be developed and be assessed through experience in workshops, studio and external environments. The learner will be exposed to a series of techniques through tutor-led classes and demonstrations, project-based briefs and individual development support.

• BA (Hons) Make-up Artistry (currently offered at The Manchester College)

Graduates from this programme are expected to find employment in a variety of multi-disciplinary practices, including television/film production companies, theatres or as freelance artists.

Completing the course on this pathway has provided former learners with the opportunity to successfully progress as a make-up artist in the TV and film industry. Working on the likes of 'Captain America', and `My Week with Marilyn'. In addition, we have a range of learners who are currently working for well-known make-up brands Mac, Benefit, Bobbie Brown. A number of students on this pathway also go on to set up their businesses as photographic and bridal make-up artists.

Upon successful completion of the FdA Make-up Artistry, students may progress on to the BA (Hons) in Make-up Artistry.
