Course Details

  • If you are looking for employment, or are already employed in an administration or receptionist role, the Level 2 Medical Administration Diploma course will provide you with the necessary skills and knowledge to provide effective administrative support within a health care setting.

    You will gain an understanding of, and be able to correctly use, a range of medical terms, develop an understanding of the principles of medical ethics, etiquette, and confidentiality, which are essential to fulfilling the role of the medical administrator or receptionist. You will develop an understanding of health and safety in the workplace and its impact on the working environment, particularly with regard to the hazards relating to the medical field.

    You will learn about the structure of the NHS, to develop an understanding of the range of care providers, and how the different sections and departments work as part of the health care team.

    The course is made up of the following seven units:

    • Medical terminology
    • Medical principles for the administrator
    • Working in the NHS
    • Administration skills in a medical environment
    • Communication skills in a medical environment
    • Medical word processing
    • Production of medical documents from recorded speech (audio)

    You will study the course for one academic year

  • You should have a positive attitude, a desire to learn, motivation and commitment to the course. All applicants are required to attend an interview with the Course Tutor. At interview you will be required to complete an online English test to ascertain suitability for the course before a place is offered.

  • You must complete the following:
    3 externally set and externally marked examinations
    4 externally set and internally marked assessments

  • This course is aimed at providing the necessary skills and knowledge for you to find employment as a medical administrator or medical receptionist, or for existing secretaries to gain a qualification that will enhance their career prospects or allow them to progress to further study.

    There are a number of career pathways to follow once you have gained the necessary qualification such as;

    • Medical Receptionist
    • Ward Clerk
    • Medical Administrator
    • Medical Secretary (dependent upon medical WP/medical audio skills)
