This course is intended for learners who have no previous knowledge of medical terminology, and who wish to get a thorough grounding in the correct construction, recognition and usage of medical terminology.
With this award you can start or develop your career as a medical administrator or secretary, helping patients and providing vital support for doctors and other healthcare professionals.
The course will be running 11th September 2018 – 5th February 2019; a 3 hour course delivered one evening a week.
You do not need to have any previous qualifications to apply for the course, but you should have a reasonable level of English. We will conduct a short initial assessment of these skills to check your current abilities, and interview to confirm your interest and understanding of the course and whether it is suitable for you.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed via a one hour written exam.
The course takes a structural approach, focusing on how medical terms are built from a combination of roots, prefixes and suffixes and the recognition of these terms from given definitions. It covers terminology and abbreviations relating to body systems, medical specialities, pharmacology.

• medical terminology relating to the medical specialities
• pharmaceutical abbreviations
Continuing Your Journey
This qualification will enable you to go on to study further medical qualifications. You can either go on to study the Level 3 Certificate in Medical Terminology. Or maybe the Business Administration Level 2 course would be preferred.Careers page
After this course employment could be sought in a medical administration/receptionist role as it will give you the tools to provide effective administrative support within any health care setting.
