Overview
This two-day Shunter Awareness Training course is ideal for anyone who works with vehicles and trailers within a depot environment and who needs to ensure they are working to the relevant requirements and practices in accordance with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
During the course, you’ll focus on the Health and Safety Act, including topics such as manual handling requirements, PPE regulations, LOLER, and safe systems of work. You’ll look at safe speeds around site, how to conduct daily vehicle checks, coupling and uncoupling skills and how to reverse safely.
As well as safe routes and designs and an introduction to banksman techniques, the course can be tailored to meet the needs of your company, so employees get shunter and marshalling training relevant to the vehicles at your depot. At the end of the course, you’ll get a certificate of training that is valid for three years. -
Entry requirements
Ideally, anyone attending this course will hold a licence in the category of vehicles that are being shunted. This will ensure a deeper understanding of the vehicle characteristics.
-
How will I be assessed?
Throughout this short course, you’ll be researching and learning relevant regulations and producing short presentations on how they affect the workplace. You’ll also complete a written and practical assessment based on the requirements to be a professional shunter.
-
Continuing Your Journey
When you’ve completed this course, you’ll have the skills, competence and confidence to work safely and effectively in a depot, carrying out shunting, marshalling and vehicle guidance duties that are fully complaint with current regulations and codes of practice.
