  • As sport participation rates are forecast to increase over the coming years, the study of sports science and human performance is becoming more and more important. Now is the perfect time to complete this foundation degree with us and develop the skills that will help you enjoy a rewarding career in the industry.

    Focusing on the three main disciplines of sport science – Physiology, Biomechanics and Psychology – as identified by the British Association of Sport and Exercise Science (BASES), you’ll look at the foundations of physiological and psychological training, exploring how sports performance is affected by these factors in both theoretical and practical tests.

    Along with studying bioenergetics and the metabolism, you’ll also learn about the theory behind the biomechanics of strength and conditioning, and complete practical assignments to understand this subject in more detail. Each topic will prepare you with the knowledge and skills to succeed in a sports science related role. This course is validated by Manchester Metropolitan University.

    The course is delivered over 2 years full time or 4 years part time

  • Applicants should normally possess one of the following:

    Applicants should possess two A levels (an A level in PE would be an advantage), or a BTEC Level 3 in a related area.
    Minimum UCAS tariff points required: 64.
    Mature applicants (aged 21 or over) who are able to demonstrate relevant skills or knowledge gained in employment or vocational activity are encouraged to apply and will be considered. Please state this clearly on your application.
    Applicants are welcome with vocational qualifications such as the Certificate / Diploma in Personal Training alongside relevant work experience.
    Entry from other courses is also acceptable such as professional qualifications, access to Higher Education, NVQ Level 3 depending on experience and satisfactory interview.

  • The course will be delivered via lectures, seminars, tutorial, practical sessions, guest speakers / visits, independent study. The course encompasses a variety of assessment methods, involving both individual and group assessments.

    The range of assessments used within the course includes, report writing, essays, presentations, portfolio submissions, examinations, practical and research based coursework assignments, work-based learning, demonstrations and practical project.

  • You can apply for a top up Level 6 programme in a related area based on university entry requirements. The sports industry is competitive but a Sports Science and Human Performance Foundation Degree will give you the key skills to succeed in many careers.
