Course Details

  • This course is for students that have a real passion for sport, and want to learn about the art/science of coaching sports skills. Students will develop a range of skills and knowledge in key areas of sports coaching which will be appropriate for successful transition into a sports coaching/delivery based career. The course is ideal for those who wish to work with sports clubs, schools, national governing bodies or operate sports coaching based businesses.
    The course is delivered over 2 years full time or 4 years part time

  • Applicants are required to have two A Levels (including PE), or a BTEC Level 3 National Diploma/Extended Diploma with Merit, Pass, Pass or a BTEC Level 3 National Certificate/Extended Certificate with Merit, Merit in Sport, or an equivalent level 3 qualification with appropriate content.
    Minimum UCAS tariff points required: 64
    The ideal candidate will have the desire to pursue a career within the sports coaching industry coupled with a lifelong passion for sport. You will have already worked in a leadership/ volunteering capacity and have some experience of delivering/ assisting sports coaching within a club or school.
    Applicants should be highly motivated, have strong interests in sport/ sports coaching and be able to work well as a member of a team.
    Applicants initially may be required to attend an interview and complete an interview task.
    Mature applicants (aged 21 or over) who are able to demonstrate relevant skills or knowledge gained in employment or vocational activity may also apply.

  • Assessment is continuous and consists of practical coaching assessments, presentations, exams, reports, portfolios and case studies. The course is predominantly practical based and centred on codes of conduct and professional practice. As part of the course students will also undertake work experience.
    You will be enrolled as an external student with Manchester Metropolitan University.

  • On completion of the course, learners could go in to employment, or progress on to the top up year, to attain a BSc (Hons) Sports Coaching and School Sport.

    Coaching within amateur, semi-professional and professional sports clubs.
    PE teacher in schools and colleges.
    Performance analysts.
