FAQ's for Year 11 and Current Applicants
The Manchester College is currently delivering its courses via online learning, after the government closed campuses in response to Covid-19.
We know that the current situation might be causing you a lot of worry, but we wanted to reassure you that there is still a place for you at The Manchester College. What’s more, if you haven’t yet applied you can still do so!
The Manchester College is the No.1 for overall achievement in the whole of Greater Manchester, demonstrating that when we commit to helping you reach your full potential, we also deliver. Providing of course you aspire to reach those goals and are willing to work hard to achieve them!

That’s why we work closely with industry partners, to ensure we are giving you all the skills you will need to become the next excellent an amazing employee in your chosen sector.
Whether we are welcoming you to one of our campuses, or working with you remotely online, none of that changes. So, to set your mind at ease, we’ve pulled together some answers to your frequently asked questions!

Can I still apply for a place at the College?
Yes, we are still accepting applications and would be delighted if you choose to continue your journey with us. Our newly developed online application portal means that any young person wishing to apply or accept their place at The Manchester College may continue to do so, from wherever they are. The portal can be accessed via PC, laptop, tablet or mobile.
Please complete our online application form once you have found a course and we will be in touch with you to confirm your application and the next stage in the process.
You can be assured that despite the uncertainty of exams and results this year and having to apply to us remotely, there is a programme of study available for you at the College and you will be able to access a place with us after the summer break.
Will I still get a place at College, if I am not having exams this year?
Yes, there will be a place for you at the right level of study in line with your given results.
I've applied for a course and I am awaiting interview. How will this impact on me?
With the College now working remotely we will be moving to telephone interviews and we will be in touch with you in the very near future to confirm arrangements. It is therefore essential that you ensure that we have an up-to-date mobile number to contact you on.
If you have received a communication from us in the last few days or weeks inviting you into College for an Applicant & Parent Information Evening, please ignore this request. We will be in touch soon to confirm the details of your telephone interview.
Of course, you can log-in to our applicant portal at any time to review the current status of your application.
What do I do if I am still unsure what course to apply for at College?
If you are still unsure what course to apply for and feel you might benefit from a one to one conversation either with our School Liaison Team or Careers & Welfare, then please do not hesitate to get in touch with our School Liaison Team at SchoolLiaison@tmc.ac.uk. If you wish to discuss your options please contact us on 03333 222 444, as the contact centre is open from 8.30am to 5pm Monday-Friday.
How can I change the course or campus I have applied for?
To change the course or the campus please log into our online portal and you can change your choice remotely through our system. If you are having difficulty accessing the online portal, or wish to discuss course and campus changes, please ring Course Enquiries on 03333 222 444. The contact centre is open from 8.30am to 5pm Monday-Friday.
Where can I get some help with my online application?
If you need help completing an online application please do not hesitate to contact the School Liaison Team at SchoolLiaison@tmc.ac.uk one of the team will happily talk you through the online application process over the phone. If you need any general assistance please contact us on 03333 222 444, as the contact centre is open from 8.30am to 5pm Monday-Friday.
I have been invited to the New Student Welcome Day. Is this still happening?
A decision on the New Student Welcome Day will be taken closer to the time and will be made in line with government advice. Please check regularly for communications from the College to ensure you have the latest information to hand. Please don’t worry though, we will make sure you are not disadvantaged if there needs to be a more remote applicant transition plan to a College place.
I have completed my online application. Is there anything else I can be doing to help this along?
Now that you have completed your application you can track your progress by logging into the application portal. Keep an eye out for your offer and make sure you follow the details on how to accept. In addition, please keep an eye out for any communication relating to telephone interviews (see question 3).
When will the College open again? Will the College be open by September?
We are hopeful that we will be open as usual by September. However, as the current Government closure of all schools and Colleges doesn’t have an end date, at this stage we do not know what the situation will be. Please don’t worry though, we will make sure you are not disadvantaged by this closure period, however long it lasts.
- How can I get keep updated with any further information about College?
Will I be able to take Maths and English GCSE resits alongside my studies from September?
The Manchester College will continue to run the GCSE/functional skills English and Maths program alongside your vocational study programme.
When will I enrol at College?
Once a decision has been made around enrolment we will contact students to ensure they are aware of the next stage of the process.
I have disclosed a learning need, how can I get more information on how the College can support me?
The College have a dedicated team in place to support learners with special educational needs or disabilities to access an inclusive, supported learning environment. Contact the Transition Team at email@example.com to discuss how they can support you and your progression to College.
