New term, New year: What you can expect from the Careers & Welfare team

It’s the start of a new term but things will likely be very different to how they usually are. Whether you’re a returning student or a new student, coming into College may pose a lot of questions.

I work in the Careers & Welfare team at Manchester College and decided to write this blog as a way to advise students on how we will be supporting you whilst you study with us.

We will be available to support you on your journey towards an amazing career. We will help you to choose the right course, support you whilst you are studying with us, and ensure you move on from College with a plan for your future. In these times of uncertainty, it’s important to seek guidance from careers professionals, as they can help you plan and identify the steps you can take to reach your goals.

We are here to support all students studying at The Manchester College, whether you’re a school leaver, adult or on one of our UCEN Manchester programmes. Here are the things we can help with, and if we can’t answer your question, then we’ll find the person who can!

You can book an appointment to speak with a Level 6 qualified careers professional on any of our campuses. As the current situation means we are having to socially distance on site, we have adapted the way we can interact with students. As well as offering some face to face appointments on site, students will also be able to book a virtual appointment, which can be done via phone, Skype or Teams.

You’ll also likely see us in your tutorials as we’ll be delivering a variety of talks throughout the year, on topics such as UCAS, student finance and career-related topics. These may be delivered as online sessions and you’ll be able to speak to us after if you have any questions, or are uncertain of your future.

The Careers & Welfare team have a dedicated email where you can reach us to book an appointment or gain some advice – careers&welfare@tmc.ac.uk. You can follow us on Twitter @CareersTMC to get regular updates on a range of careers related topics.

We look forward to meeting you!
