Safeguarding

The Manchester College is committed to providing a safe and supportive learning environment where students feel safe and receive effective pastoral and safeguarding care, guidance and support.

Part of the college’s safeguarding duty includes protecting vulnerable individuals from the risk of radicalisation and extremism. This is called the ‘Prevent Duty’.

The government has defined extremism as: “vocal or active opposition to British values, including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs”. The college shares and promotes these values across our community.

We share the belief that safeguarding is everybody’s responsibility and foster this culture across the college. All staff are responsible for safeguarding students. There are, however, key staff within the college with specific responsibility and skills to provide interventions and ensure the safeguarding policy and process are followed. The College has a dedicated team on every site to support students to be safe at college and also support students that need any support or guidance to keep themselves safe. This includes online and circumstances that may affect students’ safety, welfare and wellbeing.

The College has a Safeguarding Policy that is available to view here. Our Policy is written in line with key legislation and guidance to enable all of our staff to have up-to-date knowledge and be able to offer students the right support and the right time. All staff are familiar with Keeping Children Safe in Education guidance.

Employer Partners

In order to ensure our employer partners offering work placements share our commitment to safeguarding, we have produced a simple guide to safeguarding for employers including details on what to do if you are concerned about a young person or vulnerable adult.
