STEM Animation by Lucas Ewan

Creative Media student receives praise from Mayor of Greater Manchester

Andy Burnham praises work of Lucas Ewan, following his work on an animation video for the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA).

Creative Media student Lucas Ewan has received praise from Mayor for Greater Manchester Andy Burnham after producing an animated video to clearly explain the GMCA’s strategy surrounding Science Technology Engineering and Maths (STEM).

Lucas, who is studying for his UAL Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production Technology – Motion Design and Animation course delivered in partnership with Flow Creative, worked to a live brief in order to produce the video that was debuted in November at a STEM event for the GMCA stakeholders.

Writing in a letter to Lucas, Andy Burnham, praised his animation skills, professionalism and creativity, commenting: “The GMCA colleagues that you met and worked with have been very impressed with your skills from storyboard designs to the final product. You followed a brief and used your creativity to bring a high level concept to life, making it visually appealing and easier for the audience to understand.”

Lucas has autism and is mostly nonverbal, so stepping outside his comfort zone to take on the project was a huge achievement. With industry input from our employer partners Flow Creative, Lucas has the support he requires to develop his skills and bring his ideas to life.
