Get industry ready with a T Level

If you're a current student thinking about your next step, or a school leaver weighing up your options after GCSEs, a T Level could be exactly the qualification to take your learning to the next level.

T Levels are two-year technical qualifications equivalent to three A Levels, combining classroom learning with a minimum 45-day industry placement. They're designed to give you real skills and real workplace experience. A T Level can prepare you for a degree, a higher apprenticeship or skilled employment.

What is a T Level?

A T Level is a high-quality technical qualification developed with employers to ensure you learn up-to-date skills that the industry needs. T Levels blend classroom learning with structured workplace experience, so you can develop practical expertise in a specific industry area.

Around 20% of your course is spent on the industry placement. This gives you valuable industry insight and opportunities to make professional connections. Our courses are taught in facilities built to reflect professional working environments.

What subjects can you study?

We currently offer T Levels across ten subject areas, including:

• Animal management
• Automotive
• Business management, finance and accounting
• Craft and design
• Digital
• Education and early years
• Engineering and manufacturing
• Health and science
• Media, broadcast and production
• Construction.

Within these subject areas, there are more than 20 individual T Level courses to choose from. These courses cover specialisms ranging from cybersecurity and civil engineering to midwifery support and content creation.

Why choose a T Level?

T Levels offer many benefits for students progressing from GCSEs. Here are some of the reasons to consider one.

At least 45 days of industry experience

Every T Level includes an industry placement, giving you hands-on experience with a real employer before you've even finished studying. This is one of the biggest differences between a T Level and a traditional academic qualification. You'll graduate with real workplace experience already on your CV.

Routes into work, further study or an apprenticeship

A T Level carries significant UCAS points. A Distinction* grade is worth 168 points, the same as three A* grades at A Level. This means degree-level study at UCEN Manchester remains an option if that's the direction you want to take. T Levels also offer direct routes into work or apprenticeships.

You don't need to have fully decided your path before you start. A T Level keeps your options genuinely open. Many students only settle on their exact direction partway through the course, once they've had a taste of the industry through their placement.

Employer-led design

T Levels are co-developed with leading businesses to ensure the content stays relevant to the modern workplace. This means what you learn is directly applicable to real jobs.

What is the T Award?

Students who secure a place on a T Level at The Manchester College are eligible for the T Award, a package of additional benefits designed to support you financially and practically throughout your course.

This includes:

• a £300 per year bursary
• free branded workwear
• an industry-standard laptop depending on your course
• masterclasses
• digital upskilling opportunities
• guaranteed progression to a higher education course at UCEN Manchester, with a bursary incentive if you choose to progress there. Terms apply, including attendance and grade requirements.

What if I don't meet the entry requirements yet?

If you don't quite meet the grades needed to start a T Level straight away, our T Level Foundation Year could be for you. This foundation course is a one-year Level 2 route that prepares you for a full T Level.

You'll work towards a qualification while developing your confidence, subject knowledge and skills. After completing the Foundation Year, you can progress on to your chosen T Level with a strong foundation for success.
