Students from The Manchester College set to compete in WorldSkills UK National Finals
WorldSkills UK has announced that over 400 talented apprentices and students have advanced to their National Finals in November and this year’s shortlists include two exceptional Hairdressing students from The Manchester College, who will compete alongside other aspiring hair and beauty professionals for the Foundation Skills Hairdressing title.
To earn their places at the much-coveted finals, first year students, Mei Ching Ho and Sau Mui Chu, participated in a regional competition, which was held at the College earlier in the year. Thanks to their exceptional performances in each stage of the competition, they will join 18 other finalists from colleges in Greater Manchester at the National Finals, which will take place at venues across the region from Tuesday 19 to Friday 22 November 2024.
Upon receiving the news, Stuart Steen the Vice Principal for 16-18 Curriculum at the College said: “I’m absolutely thrilled for Mei Ching Ho and Sau Mui Chu. I know how hard they worked throughout the 2023/24 academic year and in the build up to the regional competition, so it’s great to see them being recognised in this way.
WorldSkills UK competitions provide an amazing platform for our students to showcase their advanced technical skills, which helps raise the profile of all the opportunities that a high quality further technical education can create.
Stuart concluded: “This year’s finals are extra special for everyone at our College because we’ve been asked to host the competitions in our state-of-the-art facilities for the second consecutive year, which is a huge privilege and further exposes students from across our provision to the prestigious event.
“We’re really proud to have been chosen and all our colleagues and students are looking forward to welcoming competitors in November so they can showcase their skills on the national stage.”
Ben Blackledge, Chief Executive, WorldSkills UK added: “Huge congratulations to this year’s national finalists. We wish them the best of luck in their training as they prepare for the WorldSkills UK Finals.
“We are thrilled to be back in Greater Manchester for our national finals in November and are very grateful for the support of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority and all our host venues.
“We look forward to welcoming competitors and partners from all over the UK to showcase excellence in technical skills and drive forward the development of world-class skills for all young people.”
