Session on automotive

Students met key players in the automotive industry at The Manchester College’s first Automotive Master Class

Our students on Automotive and Engineering courses recently took part in an Automotive Master Class at our Openshaw campus.

The event, a first for The Manchester College, was attended by representatives from 25 businesses, including Halfords, Snap-op Industrial and Wynn’s.

Ayub Moosa, Head of Department (Automotive), organised the event to help engage employers with education and provide our students with an opportunity to gain a greater understanding of the key players in the automotive industry.

Ayub said: “It was great to see our students interacting and learning from professionals already working in the automotive industry. Our students have a lot to offer and I see it as part of my role to help them build relationships with the key players.

“When I speak with employers it’s clear they see the benefits of working more closely with education providers, such as The Manchester College. We are preparing our students for careers in the automotive industry at a time when businesses in this sector are experiencing skills gaps. When our students graduate they can help employers fill these gaps.”

Vic Edmonds, Area Sales and Key Account Manager for Wynn’s, attended the event and loved the concept. Vic said: “The Automotive Master Class provided the opportunity to talk to students from The Manchester College about Wynn’s ‘consumer’ and ‘professional’ specialist additive ranges. Some of the students weren’t aware of the professional range until today, but these are the products they will be using in garages to remove contamination if they get a job in the automotive industry. I look forward to attending future events and maybe even delivering interactive sessions.”

A huge thanks from Ayub and the team to all the employers (listed below in alphabetical order) who took part in the event for their time, energy and support.

Apec Braking, Car-O-Liner, DeVilbiss Automotive Refinishing, Evans Hallshaw, FE Autoelectro, GYS, Halfords, JTape, Moffatts Motor Accessories, Norton Abrasives, Roar Advanced Finishing, Snap-on Industrial, Tetrosly and Wynn’s.
