Airport partnership brings success for drivers

The Manchester College has delivered driver training for Manchester Airport Group since 2009 and supported it to become the first airport operation in the UK to put all of its drivers through the driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) between 2012 and 2013. 

The college continues to deliver a rolling programme of driver training for Driver CPC tailored to meet the CPD needs of drivers who are tasked with transporting passengers between terminals and airside by bus. The modules they study include health & safety, emergency situations, customer service and loading vehicles safely & securely.

Andy Willis, Transport Manager at Manchester Airport’s Buses Department, said:

We have found that by doing the courses our drivers are now more aware, our accident rates have decreased and customer service/care has significantly increased, but most importantly the drivers have a clearer insight into rules and regulations which, in turn, betters the whole operation.

Every driver that works at the airport has had to complete the CPC programme. To date, we have trained 170 people with a success rate of 100%.
