Drive and determination brings Arun closer to his dream career

Ambitious Arun Abraham Thariyan has his automotive career in the luxury vehicle market already mapped out.

Part of the College’s Industry Excellence Academy for Automotive, Arun has completed his L2 Diploma in Vehicle Fitting Principles sponsored by Moffatts with a Pass. Despite the difficulties of studying in a pandemic, Arun successfully secured a work placement at a local garage before being taken on as paid part time mechanic.

The forward-thinking student is now able to put his theory into practice by bringing what he learns from his expert tutors into his day-to-day work.

He said: “I was looking to arrange some work experience so asked at a garage and dealership close to the Openshaw campus. I secured an unpaid placement for a month and a half at the garage but then they kept me on in a paid position. It’s a great mix because the College gives you in-depth theoretical knowledge which I can then transfer to my work at the garage.”

Arun, whose passion for motor vehicles started when he used to help his father fix cars, is due to start his final L3 year in September and is already looking towards higher education and a successful career.

He said: “I want to go to uni to study motorsport engineering, basically the design and production of cars. Ideally, I’d love to work in the production of luxury vehicles such as Mercedes.” 

He added:

I would recommend The Manchester College to others, in fact, I’ve already recommended it to a family friend who has started his studies here!

"My course has been really interesting and I’ve learned a lot from the tutors. Also, the College has been really supportive and helped me when I needed a laptop during lockdown.”
