Leroy’s passion for cooking takes him from South Africa to MCFC

Previously a hotel manager in South Africa, Leroy was referred to The Manchester College from Back on Track, where had been volunteering in their kitchen.

Having been unemployed for a few years following an injury to his spine, Leroy wanted to follow his passion for cookery. He was very knowledgeable about cookery and a keen chef. Through Back on Track he applied for the Pre-Employment (Hospitality) Programme at the college and his confidence grew from there! He was a good team player and contributed a wealth of experience, reinforcing what he already knew.

During the course Leroy was offered a voluntary placement with One Manchester at the Premier Inn. He was really enthusiastic about it and made a great impression. Leroy made a significant journey in a short space of time and put a lot of hard work into his course.

After completing the course, Leroy was offered a position at Manchester City Football Club as a section manager in their hospitality department. He said:

I’m really excited. I’m doing my first shift when England play against Turkey at the Etihad Stadium shadowing a Section Manager and learning the ropes. I’d like to thank you for everything you’ve done for me.
