Student of the Year, Makile Moyana
Student of the Year Makile Moyana juggled her course with part-time work and raising a young family to achieve outstanding grades and not one, but two awards at the Student Excellence Awards.
Returning to study as a mature student was a worthwhile and rewarding experience for Makile and became a turning point in her life. She studied on the Foundation Degree in Business Management and has since gone onto the top-up in Business Human Resource Management. Although the usual student life challenges were present, Makile was supported by her lecturers who provided her with insightful, detailed and constructive feedback. They also offered her encouragement and support in applying for the Student Governor’s role.
I was extremely honoured to be awarded Higher Education Student of the Year and The Manchester College Student of the Year Awards. Knowing that the College believed in me from the board through to the staff and above all my peers has been a turning point in my life … I can safely say that choosing to study here has been the best decision I have ever made
Being nominated onto the Board of Governors as their student member is such an honour and a privilege. I’ve been entrusted with the prestigious role of representing the students’ voice at the College’s highest level of strategic decision making. Engaging with other students and supporting them through personal and academic challenges has helped me to grow as a person.
As well as her academic achievements, Makile has also made a difference to others and is involved in community outreach activities especially for women and children. She is a real inspiration to our current and future students.
