Overview
English and Media continue to be popular, traditional and extremely relevant subjects, at all levels of study. If you’d like to explore them at university level, but don’t currently have the necessary qualifications, this Access to Higher Education course in English, Writing and Media has been designed specifically to help you apply to universities and study for a degree.
During this year-long course, you’ll get a broad introduction to key areas of English and Media, including poetry and plays, novels from multiple periods of literary history, television and film, writing for magazines and cultural theory. You could be developing your academic writing skills and studying gothic fiction with Bram Stoker’s Dracula one day, before moving on to exploring themes in Tennessee Williams’ classic, A Streetcar Named Desire and then learning all about practical video production the next day.
Whether you’re studying short stories or poetry, writing fiction or exploring film genres, you’ll be developing a wide range of skills that are highly regarded by both university admissions tutors and prospective employers. From academically-reliable research to analytical reading skills, you’ll be well prepared for a university-level course in English, Writing or Media with this Access to Higher Education Diploma. -
Entry requirements
In order to enrol on this course, you’ll need to have a GCSE in English Language at grade C/4 or above. If you do not currently have a GCSE in Maths at grade C or above, you should also enrol on a GCSE class to run alongside this Access Diploma.
If you’d like to start preparing now for the course, and for subsequent university applications, there are a few things you can do to put yourself in the best possible position.
