Foundation Learning Programme

This full-time programme is designed to support young people who are not yet ready or who have experienced difficulties with their education as they transition into a vocational college course or, if more suitable, work-based learning.

Learners develop the skills and confidence necessary to thrive in a more independent, adult environment. We understand that starting college can be a challenging experience for many young people, and our programme offers additional time to help them adjust and feel comfortable with the new setting and upcoming challenges.

The Foundation Learning programme is a structured study plan that includes core GCSEs, Functional Skills, and a Certificate in Personal and Social Skills. Learners can select from two pathways: the Level 1 Construction Pathway, which incorporates project-based learning within our construction department; or the Level 1 Vocational Pathway, which offers an exploration of various vocational courses within the college. These pathways, combined with significant personal development opportunities, prepare students for their next steps, whether it be a Level 1 vocational course with dedicated 1:1 support from a Learning Coach or an individualised career pathway plan. Each learner will have a tailored study programme and support level to meet their specific needs.

You will be assessed by online assessments and portfolios

Upon successful completion of this qualification, learners will be able to progress onto a Level 1 study programme within The Manchester College.
