The Extended Diploma in Aeronautical Engineering offers a comprehensive, hands-on introduction to the exciting and fast-paced world of aircraft and aerospace technology. Perfect for anyone passionate about aviation and engineering, it combines classroom learning, real-world projects and workshop experience to prepare you for a career in the industry or university-level study.
You'll explore key areas such as the theory of flight, aircraft systems, airframe structures, gas turbines and propulsion, avionics and CNC machining. Alongside this, you'll develop a solid understanding of engineering principles, human factors and industry regulations - all essential for working in aerospace.
Developed in collaboration with industry leaders such as BAE Systems, Airbus, Rolls-Royce and the Royal Aeronautical Society, this course reflects real workplace expectations and standards.
Year 2 Enrichment Activities:
-Flying experience in the cockpit alongside a pilot
-Visits to leading aviation museums
-Attend a major Aero Show
-An international study visit to the Airbus A380 factory in Toulouse, France.
You'll learn:
-How aircraft fly and how their systems work
-The science behind turbines and propulsion
-Aircraft design and materials
-Use of industry-standard machinery including CNC and avionics systems
-Health & safety, legislation, and human factors in aviation
-How to maintain and troubleshoot aircraft systems.

This qualification is UCAS-recognised and provides a strong foundation for progressing to a wide range of engineering-related degree programmes, including:
Apprenticeship with the RAF and the Commercial Aviation sector
BEng/BSc in Aeronautical Engineering
BEng/BSc in Aerospace Engineering
BEng in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
BSc in Aviation Technology or Aircraft Maintenance Engineering
Foundation Degrees or HNC/HND in Engineering Disciplines
