The Extended Diploma in Aeronautical Engineering offers a comprehensive, hands-on introduction to the exciting and fast-paced world of aircraft and aerospace technology. You'll explore key areas such as the theory of flight, aircraft systems, airframe structures, gas turbines and propulsion, avionics and CNC machining. Alongside this, you'll develop a solid understanding of engineering principles, human factors and industry regulations - all essential for working in aerospace.

Developed in collaboration with industry leaders such as BAE Systems, Airbus, Rolls-Royce and the Royal Aeronautical Society, this course reflects real workplace expectations and standards.
Year 2 Enrichment Activities:

-Flying experience in the cockpit alongside a pilot
-Visits to leading aviation museums
-Attend a major Aero Show
-An international study visit to the Airbus A380 factory in Toulouse, France.

You'll learn:

-How aircraft fly and how their systems work
-The science behind turbines and propulsion
-Aircraft design and materials
-Use of industry-standard machinery including CNC and avionics systems
-Health & safety, legislation, and human factors in aviation
-How to maintain and troubleshoot aircraft systems.

This qualification is UCAS-recognised and provides a strong foundation for progressing to a wide range of engineering-related degree programmes, including:
Apprenticeship with the RAF and the Commercial Aviation sector
BEng/BSc in Aeronautical Engineering
BEng/BSc in Aerospace Engineering
BEng in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
BSc in Aviation Technology or Aircraft Maintenance Engineering
Foundation Degrees or HNC/HND in Engineering Disciplines
