The course offers high quality practical and intensive training to expand, unleash and develop acting skills providing students with the core skills required to be successful within this exciting industry.

The course aims to give students of all ages, backgrounds and experience the tools to excel as actors exploring a range of genres and practitioners. There is a strong focus on naturalism and allowing the students to build their own tool box of skills and techniques to draw upon when they perform. This will include studying practitioners such as Stanislavski, Strasberg, Meisner and Uta Hagen. There is a strong focus on text analysis and how the actor creates a life by mining the text and drawing out the clues within to develop a role which is detailed.

Students will also focus on intense vocal and movement training which are essential to any actor. Additionally the course provides guidance on audition technique both industry based and preparation for Drama School. Students will learn how to market themselves as actors and be given guidance on Equity, Spotlight etc from industry professionals.

The course is designed to be diverse, practical and industry relevant to reflect careers within the performing arts and acting profession. As part of the final project you will create your own theatre company and have the opportunity to perform in a professional setting in a production which they will produce. This provides invaluable experience and links to the industry within the vibrant and expanding Manchester theatre scene.
Students will be assessed using a variety of methods including practical demonstrations of work, viva voce's, research and written submissions.

• Practical performance skills in a variety of acting and performance styles
• Exploring the business side of being a performer and various employment opportunities.
• Building a professional portfolio for personal marketing.

• You will take part in a practical audition and interview, to assess your practical skills.
• Minimum of 48 UCAS points.
• Ideally you will have a Level 3 Extended Diploma at grade Pass, Merit, Merit in a performing arts-related area
• GCSE English and Maths at grade C/ grade 5 or above
• Prior practical experience essential
• Written communication skills essential

Assessment will take place through a variety of scenario-based assignments where you will be graded Pass, Merit or Distinction. Assessment will comprise of both theoretical (written / coursework) and practical skills based assignments / performances.

Our students have successfully gone on to professional work within the acting industry including The National Youth Theatre, regional theatre, national theatre, TV and commercial work. Students of the HNC Acting have gone on to gain places in prestigious UK accredited Drama Schools including, most recently The Royal Central School for Speech and Drama and Manchester School of Acting (Manchester Metropolitan University). Other potential pathways include teaching, training, stage managing and forming your own theatre company.
