Industry Day links Animal Care and Animal Management students with employers
Students on Animal Care and Animal Management courses at The Manchester College recently got the chance to engage with employers during an industry day at the further education provider’s Wythenshawe Campus.
Organised by the College’s Employability Partnership and Skills team, the event was designed to help the students build their industry connections while providing the opportunity to participate in hands-on activities that enhanced their skills and knowledge.
Izzie Mei Sleater, Animal Welfare Manager at Woodlands Alpaca Farm, was one of the employers in attendance and delighted with how the day went, saying: “We had a great time inspiring the next generation of animal workers."
The Alpacas from Woodlands, especially George, were the stars of the show with students gaining an amazing insight into the work that goes on to care for them and keep the animals protected.
Rob Wilson, Curriculum Exploration Officer and Safeguarding Lead at Flooglebinder (an organisation that aims to protect nature, educate travellers, support mental health) added: “It's really great to work with The Manchester College and be able to offer a variety of different projects for students. We have a group going out to Romania to help us with some conservation projects where they will be working with bears, beavers and a range of other animals.”
Guide Dogs UK were also in attendance and provided some interesting insights for students into jobs and careers that they might not have previously explored.
Bethany Pughe, Employability and Partnership Co-ordinator at The Manchester College, concluded: “A heartfelt thank you to all the employers who helped make our industry day such a success. It was an invaluable experience for our students who engaged directly with industry professionals and got a real insight into potential career options in the sector.
“We truly appreciate the enthusiasm and commitment shown by all who attended, and we’re incredibly grateful for the strong partnerships we’ve built together and for the benefit of our students."
