Harpurhey Media Make-up students excel in national competitions

Media Make-up students from The Manchester College’s Harpurhey Campus have recently excelled in a number of regional and national skills competitions.

Having finished first in the Make-up Category in the GM Skills competition, Grace Taylor, a 2nd year Level 3 Media Make-up student also finished third nationally at AHT, a national competition for Hair, Beauty and Media Make-up students, where she was praised for displaying high-level skills.

Speaking about the GM Skills competition, Grace, who is planning to progress to study SFX Make-up at the College’s Higher Education partner UCEN Manchester, said: “I really enjoyed the competition and getting to put my knowledge into practice. It was amazing to win and meet students from across Greater Manchester to get inspiration for new types of looks from them.”

Hafsah Ahmed, also a 2nd year Level 3 Media Make-up student, competed and placed third in Warpaint’s Boho Bridal Category, an event that brings together creativity and technical excellence in the world of make-up artistry. This was an experience that Hafsah really enjoyed, and, like Grace, she is now planning to study SFX Make-up at UCEN Manchester.

Millie Hilton, a Level 2 Media make-up student, also competed at GM Skills and AHT regional competitions, finishing second in the Drag Category. Millie, who is progressing to Level 3 study at the College as she aims to become a make-up artist, commented: “I want to thank my tutors for giving me the opportunity and also the confidence to compete. It was an amazing day.”

Completing the College’s string of successes, Hayden Yung, a Level 2 student, placed third nationally at the AHT competition with his Renaissance makeup look. Hayden has progressed from the Level 1 programme to Level 2 and will be continuing his success on the College’s Level 3 Media Make-up programme next year.
