Music and Performance students deliver The Manchester College’s first-ever music festival
Organised by staff and students from the Music department, The Manchester College’s first-ever music festival recently took place in Sackville Gardens.
Around fourteen different bands played a mix of covers and original work in the heart of Manchester city centre, showcasing their talents alongside the knowledge and skills they’ve acquired during their college studies.
A wide variety of music genres were on show and the free event was open to members of the public. From funk and metal to pop, punk and R&B, there was something for everyone to enjoy, and the performances showcased the diverse talent within the department.
The festival was organised as part of the students’ Collaborative Project Unit, which is led by Tutor Lee Gizon. Lee said: “Performing to members of the public is great experience for our students - it pushes them out of their comfort zones and gives them a real taste of what it’s like to work in the music industry.
From planning and promotion to sound checks and stage presence, they’re developing vital professional skills that will be prove critical in their future careers.
Lucy Oldham, Head of Music and Performance at The Manchester College, was delighted with the event, saying: “It was a wonderful afternoon and a great way for our gifted students to showcase their talents. Hopefully, the festival is the starting point for very successful careers in the industry."
