Activities / Groups

From regular meetings of your favourite clubs to whole weeks of themed events - with so many events and activities taking place throughout the year at The Manchester College, you’d almost be forgiven for losing track of the time!

You’ll find an incredible range of activities to try your hand at, groups to join, and one-off events to explore at every one of our campuses. Not only will you be having loads of fun and meeting lots of incredible people, you’ll also be developing some fantastic new skills and taking part in something you can be proud of. With so many activities to choose from, here’s an idea of where to begin.

We’re passionate about fitness and wellbeing, which is why you’ll find lots of different sporting sessions across our campuses, covering everything from badminton to volleyball, Zumba to boxing, and dance to basketball. Being in Greater Manchester, football is a big focus too, with plenty of competitions and events to get involved with.

From introductory activities to advanced sessions, there’s something for everyone. We’ve even got two special sports programmes: our Talented Athlete Support Programme (TASP) is ideal for those striving for their full potential in a sport, and our Enhancing Student Employability Programme (ESEP) gives you the chance to volunteer with sports activities and even earn some great qualifications!

Throughout the year, you’ll see the college taken over every few weeks by a new theme, cause or awareness event. We want to help you understand and talk about a range of different issues, so we arrange lots of different activities to tie in with special themes.

Some of these include:

  • Mental Health Awareness - promoting mental wellbeing and reducing stigma around mental health issues.
  • Green week - encouraging sustainable practices and environmental responsibility.
  • Celebrating at Culture Day through different food, dance, and music.

If sports aren’t really your thing, don’t worry. We’ve got a whole host of clubs and societies for you to get involved with, whether you’re new to the hobby or a passionate fan already.

Jewellery making club, book club and art club are just a few examples of the opportunities available here. And if there isn't a society for your hobby, why not create your own? Just speak to the Enrhichment Coordinator on your campus and make it happen.

We love celebrating success and achievements here at The Manchester College, and if you fancy your own skills, we hold a variety of Intercampus competitions each year including the Sustainability Competition, the Equality and Diversity Calendar and our very own TMC’s Talent Show!

You could be building a six-foot fully operational juke box from junk - complete with LED lighting, developing a new pump system for recycling water, or winning awards for your design for the Manchester Hate Crime Poster competition. We also hold an annual student conference and student excellence awards, to celebrate those who have excelled at college!

Hearing about the experiences of others and how they’ve overcome challenges is a great way to ignite a fire in yourself, and so throughout the year we invite a number of guest speakers - including Olympians, actors and famous business people - to share their stories and inspire students like you.

We also run lots of workshops throughout the year, giving you the chance to develop extra skills and knowledge. Recent examples include workshops on deaf awareness, first aid, jewellery making, food hygiene, LGBT awareness, managing finances and CV writing.

Working closely with a number of external agencies including NCS, Out Reach Mentoring and Volunteer Centre Manchester, we’re able to provide a number of volunteering opportunities to help you gain real-world experience and develop a number of skills you’ll find invaluable.

We’ll help you find a volunteering position you’ll love, whether that’s working with the community in allotments and at food banks, supporting local sports clubs, or taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award programme that we also run.
