BDA Reps Stage 1 - Autumn Term

Your training pathway begins with this five-day introductory training course, which is aimed at newly elected BDA stewards and is delivered online or in a classroom. It will help you understand the steward's role in organising members at local level and help you to feel confident in carrying out your duties.

The topics covered include:

• BDA Stage One
• The reps' role
• The structure of the BDA
• Facility time for union representatives
• Exploring your grievance procedure
• Disciplinary cases
• The Equality Act 2010
• Meeting with management
• Health and safety
• Staff Side and the Joint Negotiating Committee.

You are required to be a representative of the British Dietetic Association (BDA).

You also need to ensure that you have time off to attend this course and that you have informed the appropriate union branch official or officer of your intention to take the course.

Throughout the course you will be continuously assessed by the course tutor through classroom and workplace-based activities.

Completing this course enables you to progress to BDA Reps Stage 2.

If you are a member of a TUC-affiliated union, then Trade Union Education courses are funded by the Adult Skills Fund.

Please be aware that funding restrictions in some areas may mean that we cannot accept your application: if this is the case, you will be notified which college to reapply to.
