Working both in the classroom and through practical workshop sessions, you'll explore a range of engine management systems and component faults, dissect electrical auxiliary equipment and component faults, and learn how to repair issues with a chassis.

You'll also further your experience and awareness of health and safety in the workshop and around the office, and develop a deeper understanding of the roles and responsibilities in each department of a dealership or garage. Work Experience is a vital part of the course and you will be supported in finding a work placement relevant to your study.

This Level 3 Diploma is assessed through a variety of practical, written and oral assignments, designed to measure your knowledge and skill. You'll be observed by an assessor and answer questions orally, as well as completing online tests set by the IMI.

Once you have successfully completed this Light Vehicle Maintenance Level 3 course, you'll have strong knowledge and understanding of the automotive sector, giving you a good advantage for your future career.

You might wish to apply for apprenticeships in the industry, or continue onto further, higher level qualifications. Or you might use this qualification to pursue a career in the automotive sector right away, with a position as an engineer, a vehicle technician or fitter, a breakdown specialist or one of a number of other options.
