NOCN L1 Certificate for Trade Union Health and Safety Representatives - Autumn Term

Health and safety at work is a major issue for all employees. Workplaces with trade union health and safety reps have a significantly lower rate of accidents.

If you are a newly appointed safety rep, this is the course for you.

Delivered one day per week for 10 weeks, the course will help you to:

• Organise for health and safety
• Negotiate with employers to improve workplace safety
• Prevent accidents and ill health
• Apply health and safety legislation.

You are required to be a representative of a TUC-affiliated trade union.

You also need to ensure that you have time off to attend this course and that you have informed the appropriate union branch official or officer of your intention to take the course.

Over the course of the 10 weeks you will be continuously assessed by the course tutor through classroom and workplace-based activities.

Completing this course enables you to progress to the next stage of TUC health and safety training, TUC Health and Safety Stage 2 (Next Steps for Safety Reps). You can also enrol on further TUC programmes.

If you are a member of a TUC-affiliated union, then Trade Union Education courses are funded by the Adult Skills Fund.

Please be aware that funding restrictions in some areas may mean that we cannot accept your application: if this is the case, you will be notified which college to reapply to.
