UCU NW Reps 2 - Autumn Term

This course is for reps who have completed UCU's Rep 1, H&S 1, or our introduction to casework and are now actively engaged in representing individual members. The course also assumes you are actively engaged with your branch and understand both UCU's democratic structures and your rights as a rep. You will cover:

• Reporting and critical thinking skills
• Presenting a case systematically
• Meeting with management in a formal setting
• Negotiation skills that can be used to support representation
• Developing a system for dealing with casework back in the branch
• Sources of information and support relevant to your role
• Overview of specific areas of relevant legislation.

You are required to be a representative of the University and College Union (UCU) and have completed the Stage 1 course.

You also need to ensure that you have time off to attend this course and that you have informed the appropriate union branch official or officer of your intention to take the course.

Throughout the course you will be continuously assessed by the course tutor through classroom and workplace-based activities.

Completing this course enables you to progress to further courses with UCU and TUC.

If you are a member of a TUC-affiliated union, then Trade Union Education courses are funded by the Adult Skills Fund.

Please be aware that funding restrictions in some areas may mean that we cannot accept your application: if this is the case, you will be notified which college to reapply to.
