URTU Basic Health and Safety - Autumn Term

The course has been designed to equip our health and safety representatives with the knowledge of their role and the trade union approach to health and safety.

Course aims:

• Ensure you can handle health and safety issues and develop an appropriate response to both members and management
• Demonstrate your understanding of the updated SRSC Regulations
• Ensure you know how to conduct effective workplace inspections, including all accidents and near misses
• Develop your skills to identify, obtain, order and summarise relevant health and safety information.

You are required to be a representative of United Road Transport Union (URTU).

You also need to ensure that you have time off to attend this course and that you have informed the appropriate union branch official or officer of your intention to take the course.

Throughout the course you will be continuously assessed by the course tutor through classroom and workplace-based activities.

Completing this course enables you to progress to URTU Advanced Health and Safety.

If you are a member of a TUC-affiliated union, then Trade Union Education courses are funded by the Adult Skills Fund.

Please be aware that funding restrictions in some areas may mean that we cannot accept your application: if this is the case, you will be notified which college to reapply to.
