Health and Social Care students host special event for local care home residents
Health and Social Care students at The Manchester College’s Harpurhey campus recently welcomed residents from local care homes and their carers for a special afternoon of activities.
Supported by our Recruitment and Outreach team, the event was designed to create an inclusive, relaxed and enjoyable afternoon for the guests, who enjoyed a variety of sessions such as hand massages, board games and seated sports.
Our students also served a delicious buffet that they prepared themselves. The event was a wonderful opportunity for them to put all the skills learned on their study programmes into practice, while engaging directly with members of the local community.
Residents, carers, staff and students spent time chatting, sharing stories and learning from one another, with one guest giving our students a quickfire chess lesson!
Camille Riley, Recruitment and Outreach Manager, said:
As a Recruitment and Outreach Team, we are committed to strengthening our connection with the local communities surrounding our College campuses.
“We also recognise the importance of tackling loneliness, particularly among care home residents. This event was designed not only to provide an enjoyable experience, but also to offer companionship, conversation and a change of environment. We hope that our guests left with positive memories of the College, our staff and our students.”
The Recruitment and Outreach team are now looking forward to hosting more events across our campuses to bring local people together and celebrate shared experiences.
Camille added: “Building meaningful relationships with our neighbours is an important part of who we are, and we are always looking for new ways to engage, support and learn from the people in our community.”
