The Manchester College students go behind the scenes at Hits Radio HQ
Six students from The Manchester College got an exclusive behind the scenes experience at Hits Radio HQ in Manchester city centre as part of the College’s exciting partnership with Hits Live Radio (Bauer Media Group).
Students from the College’s Business, Creative Media and Performing Arts courses took part in a hands-on content creation day after putting themselves forward through an application process open to students across the college. The experience gave them a unique opportunity to learn directly from industry professionals and gain valuable insight into the world of content creation.
Throughout the day, the students met scriptwriters and content creators, took part in practical workshops and tackled professional briefs, putting their creativity into practice by directing voiceovers in the studio and pitching their ideas.
Students were challenged to develop ideas for the College’s own radio advert with Hits Live Radio, as well as create and pitch social media content concepts, giving them first-hand experience of responding to a professional creative brief.
Beyond the workshops, the jam-packed day revealed what goes into the day-to-day running of an established media brand. Students saw how different teams work together to bring creative ideas to life, gaining insight into a professional media environment and picking up valuable content creation tips and tricks from leading industry experts.
The day also brought together students from different courses, creating an opportunity to collaborate, exchange ideas and learn from one another. With different knowledge, experiences and perspectives around the table, the sessions sparked thoughtful discussions and encouraged students to share their own insights and creative ideas, while learning from both their peers and industry professionals.
For Business student Pandora, the experience provided an exciting insight into the world of content creation:
“I absolutely loved today’s work experience. I had so much fun! I got so much insight into the content creation world and, overall, I’d rate it a 10 out of 10!”
Keep an ear out throughout October and November 2026 for the College’s radio advert. You might just hear some of the students’ ideas come to life!
