Technical Skills Excellence at The Manchester College

Level 3 results day 2025 brings cause for celebration at The Manchester College after students secure top grades in their T Levels and other technical and creative qualifications, including BTECs.

Building on an established track record of strong student achievement across its provision, The Manchester College today announced that 92.7% of T Level students achieved success in subjects such as Education and Early Years, Health, Finance, Engineering, and Digital.

This is the College’s third cohort of students to complete the advanced technical qualifications, and the College’s 2025 pass rate is 1.7 percentage points higher than the national pass rate for T Level courses in 2024. What’s more, 27.8% of the further education provider’s students receiving their results this year achieved a distinction in their chosen subject – a 10 percentage point increase on 2024.

T Levels, which launched at the College in 2021, are equivalent to three traditional A Levels and require students to successfully complete a 45-day industry placement with an employer as part of their study programme.

A remarkable 99.2% of students achieved other Level 3 technical and creative qualifications, including BTECs, up from 97.5% in 2024. From this year’s cohort, 84% achieved a merit grade or above and 55.2% of students who studied these courses have walked away with a distinction or higher.

Rachel Curry, Principal of The Manchester College, said:

We’re exceptionally proud of the amazing results that our students have achieved this year, which are a testament to their talent, dedication and perseverance. They’ve worked incredibly hard, with the support of our remarkable teachers and support teams, to reach the aspirational goals they set for themselves and develop the technical and creative skills that will make sure they stand out from the crowd when they progress to university or start their careers.

“It’s pleasing to see the success of our T Level students. They tackled these advanced technical qualifications with a combination of enthusiasm and tenacity, and now they’ve got their rewards. I’d also like to thank our teaching and support staff, for their commitment to supporting our students, and their unwavering dedication in a year that has also seen our College graded as ‘Good’ by Ofsted.”

Henry Mafe has just finished the T Level Science course and achieved a distinction. Henry has also secured employment at the Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute as a Scientific Assistant. When reflecting on the course, Henry said: "The best part of the course was how the tutors helped me find a placement. I have gained great insight into the world of science and the different careers within it."

During their studies, Henry completed an industry placement with Cancer Research UK, who are one of the College’s employer partners. When asked about the positive impact Henry had on their organisation Lisa Doar, BRU Experimental Facility Manager at Cancer Research UK, said: “Henry is very enthusiastic and keen to learn; we were pleased with how quickly Henry settled into the work and picked up the skills needed to make a valuable contribution to the facility.

“Having had this positive experience with Henry, we will be looking to place T Level students from The Manchester College again in the future, and look forward to working with more enthusiastic students.”

Rachel Curry concluded: “This year’s technical education results across the board wouldn’t be possible without our fantastic employer partners, who co-develop and co-deliver our courses to ensure that students leave with the relevant knowledge and skills required to make an immediate impact in their pursuits of their dream careers. Our College makes a strong contribution to the skills agenda, equipping the next generation with the technical skills that industries across the city region want and need, so we can’t wait to see what our students go on to achieve, whether that’s in further study or employment.”
