Royal recognition for Student, Jak Stocks

Health and Social Care student nominated for the Young Volunteer Award at the first ever OnSide Awards 2019

Level 1 Health and Social Care student Jak Stocks was nominated for the Young Volunteer Award at the first ever OnSide Awards at the iconic Royal Albert Hall in November.

Jak has been a Youth Volunteer at the Youth Zone in Harpurhey for four years and has ambition to become a Youth Worker. He is also taking part in the Junior Choices Programme, where he visits local schools as a student representative with the College’s youth team enhancing his Employability Skills.

He said, “I have always been motivated to give back to the community. I am an inspired Youth Worker and I volunteer with different voluntary organizations. In the future, my plan is to be a Behaviour Teacher or Specialist working with young people in schools and youth centres.

When I attended the Onside Awards, I was surrounded by a great bunch of people and there was an amazing atmosphere. I loved celebrating everyones hard work.

The spectacular occasion was hosted by BBC Radio 1 presenter, Dev Griffin and Capital Breakfast Show host, Vick Hope. It brought together the whole of the OnSide community including a meet and greet with HRH Prince Harry, to celebrate the achievements of young people, volunteers and staff.

Jak had a fantastic time at the awards ceremony, where talented young people from the community perform alongside world-renowned artists John Newman, The Script and Ms Banks. The ceremony also included performances from a grand, 25-piece orchestra.

Sarah Drinkwater, Enhanced Achievement Tutor, said:

Jak is a credit to his course and to the Health and Social Care department. He deserves the recognition for all his work within the Community.
