The Manchester College students feature in thought-provoking Waterloo Road documentary
Performing Arts students from The Manchester College were recently invited to participate in a documentary that was broadcast as part of the current series Waterloo Road on BBC.
Produced by Warner Bros, this documentary explores coercive behaviour and control in teenage relationships, including the impact this has on the victim’s mental health, academic performance and personal relationships.
The programme looks at why this is becoming a bigger issue in society. Fans of the BBC drama will be aware that the topic of coercive relationships forms a key storyline in the current series of the show and the documentary is intended to raise awareness of the issue amongst young people.
This has been one of many industry experiences that allow our students to shine in a professional environment.
Charlotte Swindels, Head of Performing Arts at The Manchester College, said: “Not only did this documentary shine a light on an important issue that is all too prevalent in today’s society, it also allowed our talented Acting and Performing Arts students to work with industry professionals and gain experience in a unique setting.”
Joe Kriesel was one of the students involved in the project and spoke about the experience: "The topic discussed in the documentary is an important one. I had to show empathy and imagine what someone else might be feeling or experiencing. The experience of working with a professional crew was also amazing, and it's something I'd love to do again."
Fellow student, Ciel Clyde, added: “I think it’s important that all young people are educated on this subject. As a young actor, it was just a lovely day, especially meeting two of the stars of the TV show and being able to talk to them about their careers as well.
