Construction and Engineering

In Summer 2021 we opened our brand new facilities at our Openshaw campus, located close to the Etihad stadium.

These new facilities are home to our Industry Excellence Academy for Construction and Engineering.

Industry-standard facilities that have been developed specifically for your course, include:

  • Purpose built practical areas for plumbing, electrical, carpentry, joinery, brickwork and plastering
  • A multi-skills area for joint projects
  • On the mezzanine level you will find an electrical testing area, work bays for electrical, carpentry and joinery and break out teaching areas.

There is also a dedicated T Level area with two classrooms that can be transformed into a conference space for employer sessions, dedicated workspaces and practical areas for each T Level route. These facilities also include:

  • Cutting-edge BIM suites for learning the very latest design techniques
  • An immersive tech lab where you will be able to use virtual reality to learn skills such as welding.

Having facilities that mirror industry standards, alongside a curriculum co-designed and co-delivered with industry partners, will ensure our students' transition from student to professional smoothly and that they are ready for their next role in a growing industry. I’m especially excited to open our dedicated T Level zone, for the first 3 cohorts this year.

Our Openshaw campus is located on Ashton Old Road. It is easy to get to via public transport, with many bus routes stopping directly outside the campus, including the 219 bus running regularly from Manchester Piccadilly Station. Ashbury’s train station and the Etihad Campus Metrolink station are only a 10 minute walk away.  You can find out how to get there from your home address using the Transport for Greater Manchester route planner: Plan a journey | Transport for Greater Manchester (tfgm.com)

We also have secure bike storage facilities on site so, with showers on campus, you also have the option to cycle to College.

Additionally, if you are aged 16-18 and live in Greater Manchester, you are entitled to free bus travel across the region seven days a week with ‘Our Pass’ (click the link to find out more and apply). Eligible adult students can also get support with travel costs (click the link to find out more and apply).
