New for 2027: £4 million engineering facility at Openshaw Campus
This purpose-built 630m² facility has been designed with employer partners to give students the skills and hands-on experience needed for careers in engineering.
What's inside:
- A mechanical engineering workshop equipped with the latest CNC machines, lathes and 3D printing technology
- State-of-the-art fabrication and welding bays
- A specialist PLC and electronics laboratory focused on automation and control systems
- A professional CAD suite with access to the latest industry software.
While our new engineering facility represents a major investment in the future of construction and engineering education, it's just one part of the high-quality learning environments available to our students.
Across our campuses, you'll find:
Openshaw campus
- 25 specialist constuction workshops
- Purpose built practical areas for plumbing, electrical, carpentry, joinery, brickwork, plastering, and painting and decorating
- A multi-skills area for joint projects
- Electrical testing area and work bays for electrical
- Cutting-edge BIM suites for learning the very latest design techniques
- An immersive tech lab where you will be able to use virtual reality to learn skills such as welding.

- Brand-new 352m2 brick workshop

Our Openshaw campus is located on Ashton Old Road. It is easy to get to via public transport, with many bus routes stopping directly outside the campus, including the 219 bus running regularly from Manchester Piccadilly Station. Ashbury’s train station and the Etihad Campus Metrolink station are only a 10 minute walk away. We also have secure bike storage facilities on site so, with showers on campus, you also have the option to cycle to College.
Additionally, if you are aged 16-18 and live in Greater Manchester, you are entitled to free bus travel across the region seven days a week with ‘Our Pass’ (click the link to find out more and apply).
